Royal Life Saving Remote Swimming Pool Program
We take our community responsibility very seriously and actively look for and encourage new initiatives and partnerships that will support the sustainability of the communities in which we operate.
In particular, we believe we have a critical role to play in the social, economic and environmental growth of Newman, Port Hedland and nearby Indigenous communities. By developing partnerships and maximising opportunities presented by growth, we can continue to provide measurable benefits to our host communities and help build a positive legacy in the Pilbara.
Each year, through our Community Investment Program, we work to ensure that we actively support projects that are valued and initiated by the local communities and guided by their priorities, in order to create long-term sustainable benefits.
Based on current forecasts, the value of our contribution for FY2010 is expected to exceed $34M. We will focus our investment in priority focus areas identified as priorities by the community, including environment, Indigenous wellbeing, health, township amenity, education and community development.
These investments reflect our confidence in the Pilbara region and the commitment to the long-term sustainability of the communities that support our operations.
"When I was Education Minister I worked with BHP Billiton Iron Ore to develop our A$6million Pilbara Education Partnership, a unique approach to enhancing education services in the Pilbara.
I welcome the continued involvement of BHP Billiton Iron Ore in the development of the Perth and Pilbara communities, and their partnerships with Government to provide much-needed services and infrastructure, such as health, community safety and childcare."
Alan Carpenter, former Premier of Western Australia
